Ideal for families and small Groups. Évora is a stunning UNESCO World Heritage city in the heart of the Alentejo region. Before you reach Évora, Vidigueira offers a deep dive into Roman history and the famous "Talha" wine tradition The name of Vidigueira is also linked to the historical figure of Vasco da Gama, to whom D. Manuel I (1495-1521) gave the title of the Count of Vidigueira in 1519. The town's clock tower strikes the hour with a bell carved with the Cross of the Order of Christ and the arms of the Gama family, together with the date: 1520. Yet another memory of Vasco da Gama is evoked roughly 2 kilometres from Vidigueira. It was in the chancel of the convent church of Nossa Senhora das Relíquias (now greatly altered in its original design) that the mortal remains of the discoverer of the sea route to India were first laid to rest when they were brought back from Cochim in 1539, until his body was finally transferred to the Mosteiro dos Jerónimos in 1898. Évora is a stunning UNESCO World Heritage city in the heart of the Alentejo region. Évora was taken from the moors by Geraldo’’ Sem Medo’’ no fear. In 1166 in the Middle Ages became one of the most prosperous cities of the kingdom, especially during the Avis Dynasty (1385-1580) We will continue our tour visiting the Temple of Diana. It is a corinthian style temple. Roman Temple of Évora (Templo Romano): Often called the Temple of Diana, this 1st-century monument is one of the best-preserved Roman ruins in the Iberian Peninsula. Chapel of Bones (Capela dos Ossos): A hauntingly beautiful chapel located within the Church of St. Francis, its walls and pillars are covered in thousands of human bones and skulls. Évora Cathedral (Sé de Évora): The largest medieval cathedral in Portugal. You can climb to its roof for panoramic views of the city's historic center. Praça do Giraldo: The city's lively main square, characterized by its arcaded buildings and a 16th-century fountain. It is the perfect spot for people-watching at an outdoor café. Certainly! Since you're looking for the ultimate Alentejo Gastronomic experience. The Alentejo region is the heart of Portuguese "comefort food," where simple ingredients like bread, olive oil, garlic, and herbs (coriander and pennyroyal) are transformed into legendary dishes.
